This blue hour engagement session was one of my favorites to shoot of the entire year. And the resulting photos are now the crux of my brand. So, I am so excited to share them with you.
Emily and Nick are some of the sweetest, silliest folks I’ve had the honor to photograph. Nick’s slight anxiety about being photographed brought out all his weird and silly nature, keeping Emily (and myself) giggling the whole shoot.
These two were hoping for a field/sunset vibe, and we selected one of my favorite hills near Afton, MN for their session. Well, the sun set fast and as we walked through the park I realized we were going to run out of daylight. But that just made me MORE excited because, well, have you heard about blue hour? Blue hour is the period right after the sun sets, when the remaining light is soft and cool. It’s a completely different vibe from mere minutes before; golden hour is soft, yet warm and bright. While it may be difficult to photograph sometimes, with the right gear it is a dream. The resulting images feel magical and otherworldly—so intimate and calm.
I hope you feel joyful and serene looking through this journal. If you make it to the end, you’ll see portraits Emily + Nick took of each other on my camera. In the last glimmer of light.
